UP CLOSE WITH JERMAINE ANDERSON OF WALTER TIGERS TUEBINGEN

Last Updated: May 21, 2009

Interview with Jermaine Anderson (188-G-83, agency: EM-PA, college: Fordham) of Walter Tigers Tuebingen By: Aaron Reilly

For the readers who never saw you play, describe your game. Do you model your game after anyone?
J - I would say that I have an up-tempo style of game. I like to play fast, and make decisions on the fly. But I like to make the safe and simple play to keep turnovers at a minimum which is the biggest thing in my opinion for a pg. I dont think I play like anybody I just try and learn by watching other solid pg's whether it be in the NBA or Europe and try to incorporate it into my own game. But the player I try to learn from the most is Steve Nash, this is because I had an opportunity to practice with him a few years ago when he was with the national team.

You had a tremendous individual season, what were the reasons behind your success?
J - First and foremost any success that I have is through God's will, and the way I felt in some games it was through his grace I was able to even play. But I worked extremely hard in the offseason with a guy named Daniel Frieberg and playing in the summers with the national team really helped my game develop. Having the opportunity to play against teams such as Greece, Germany, USA, and Argentina has given me valuable game experience against some of the best teams and players in the world. Any time I get a chance to play for my country is definitely a blessing and a way to get better.

You had the chance to play with an old teammate in Mike Haynes, describe that experience?
J - It was a great feeling being able to play with Mike again. When I was a freshman in college Mike and another player named Mark Jarrell really took care of me and showed me how to be a successful college athlete. For me it was more than getting a chance to play with an old teammate but more like getting a chance to play with an older brother. Even though we did not get to accomplish our goal of making the playoffs it was still a blessing.

This was your second year in Walter Tigers Tuebingen, how were the fans and city?
J - Walter Tigers Tuebingen in my eyes is kind of unreal sometimes because of how supportive and positive the fans are. When I came last season I expected to see no fans in the arena because the team was on a 3 month losing streak. But in my first game, the gym was sold out and the energy in the arena was amazing. Especially since the team was struggling at that moment in time. Its a great city and the people are even better, I have made lifelong friends which I am definitely thankful for.

What was your best memory from this season?
J - There have been so many things that I can speak of. But I'd have to say it was our ability to stick together as a team throughout the ups and downs.

What are you doing this offseason to prepare for next year?
J - I will first rest and take care of a few minor injuries that I had throughout the season. Once my body feels 100% I will do a lot of the same things I did last summer in terms of training (yoga, swimming, gym workouts) then start in July with the national team again with the hopes of qualifying for the 2010 World Championships in Turkey.

Since Walter Tigers Tuebingen is out of the playoffs, who do you see making a run to win the BBL title?
J - In my opinion I think Berlin again will be the team to beat, but the playoffs are a new season and it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Jermaine, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for Eurobasket, lets do this again in a few weeks.
J - Definitely, thanks for having me.
