VANCOUVER - It's turning out to be a banner season for the University of Saskatchewan men's basketball squad.
The Huskies captured their first Canada West men's basketball championship banner Saturday in Vancouver, defeating the University of Calgary Dinos 96-83 after knocking off the No. 1-ranked University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in overtime one night earlier to already assure themselves a spot at the nationals.
"That was a big win," said University of Saskatchewan head coach Greg Jockims, whose team now advances to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Final 8 national championship tournament next week in Ottawa at Carleton University as Canada West champion.
