TORONTO - The expectations for Joel Anthony’s two teams could not be more different. On the one hand, the 6-foot-9 Montreal native likely is the starting centre for the Miami Heat, the favourites to win the NBA championship after adding LeBron James and Chris Bosh to incumbent superstar Dwyane Wade. But first, Anthony will anchor the defence for a Canadian national team which must advance past the first round at the FIBA world championship, which kicks off next month in Turkey.
Canada is competing in a tough preliminary round group which includes powerhouse Spain and steady contenders France and Lithuania.
But don't count the Canadians out, Anthony told the Toronto Sun's Ryan Wolstat at a Canada Basketball event Thursday night in Toronto.
