TORONTO, ON – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the Cadet Men’s National Team that will represent Team Canada at the U16 FIBA Americas in Bahia Blanca, Argentina from June 10-14.
“We’re pleased with the progress the team has made over the course of the training camp,” said Head Coach, Dave DeAveiro. “These athletes have shown outstanding work ethic and commitment to the team to solidify their spots on our final roster.”
DeAveiro, a native of Toronto, returns for his fourth year coaching the U16/U17 age-group team. He is joined by assistants Michael Meeks (Canada Basketball) and James Derouin (University of Ottawa), as well as apprentice coach Nicky Davis (Sheridan College).
“For these athletes it will be their first time representing Canada in international competition,” said Rowan Barrett, Executive Vice President/Assistant General Manager, Men’s High Performance. “This will be a tremendous opportunity for growth and development for this young crop of talented Canadians.”
The athletes completed a four-day camp at Humber – North Campus this past weekend. Athletes were identified throughout the year in a series of identification camps and recommendations from the Provincial/Territorial Service Organizations.
This past summer, the Cadet squad finished 6th at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Cup in Dubai. Canada is currently ranked 3rd worldwide in the FIBA Men’s Age Group rankings.
A full list team roster and staff are listed below. The team will reconvene in May for a training camp prior to their departure to Argentina.
