Canada Falls Short to Spain in Exhibition Play

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM (June 16, 2019) - Canada's Senior Women's National Team fell to Spain 87-59 on Sunday morning in the third game of their Belgium exhibition tournament.

Miah-Marie Langlois was the team’s leading scorer with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists. Sami Hill and Ruth Hamblin contributed 10 and eight points respectively, while Kayla Alexander recorded eight rebounds in the loss. Spain was led by Marta Xargay who recorded 18 points.

A slow start saw Spain up with an 8-0 lead to start the game. Despite a good effort to bring the lead down to just four points, Canada was unable to pull away with a lead of their own and ended the first quarter down 18-9.

Although they outscored Spain 23-21 in the second quarter, Spain remained in the lead 39-32 going in to the halftime.

A tough third quarter left Canada down 64-42 making it hard for the Canadians to chip away at the deficit. Despite their efforts, Canada was unable to take down Spain who currently is ranked 2nd worldwide in the FIBA World Ranking Presented by NIKE.

UP NEXT

Canada will now face Great Britain on June 18, 2019 at 2:30 pm ET in their fourth game of the five-game European exhibition tour.

These exhibition games will help Team Canada prepare for a busy summer that will see the team participate in the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2019 and Lima 2019 Pan-Am Games, as well as the FIBA Women's Pre-Qualifying Tournaments in Americas this fall.
