TORONTO, ON (March 13, 2017) - The 2017 U Sports Final 8 saw the McGill Martlets crowned as women's champions, while the Carleton Ravens captured the men's title on the final day of the varsity basketball season.

McGill's victory over Laval marked the school's first-ever women's basketball championship, and was the first time two Quebec schools had faced off for the Canadian title. The Martlets were led by head coach Ryan Thorne, an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2015 FISU Summer Games in South Korea.

For Carleton, their victory over OUA champion Ryerson marked the school's 7th straight men's national title and 13th overall. Ravens head coach Dave Smart is an assistant coach on Canada's senior men's national team.
