Dyshawn Pierre And Ruth Hamblin Named Toyota Players Of The Week

Dyshawn Pierre and Ruth Hamblin have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for November 2-8.

In Fenerbahçe’s EuroLeague win against Khimki, Pierre scored 16 points, grabbing three rebounds and three assists in just 20 minutes off the bench to earn himself a Player of the Week nomination. The Whitby, ON native also shot 6/10 from the field including 2/5 3PT to help secure his team’s win. Prior to heading overseas to play, Pierre spent four years at the University of Dayton, where he was chosen as an All-Atlantic 10 Conference Second Team Selection. He’s since played for Braunschweig of the BBL, Dinamo Sassari in the LBA and won the FIBA Europe Cup in 2019. Pierre has been a member of the Canadian National Team since 2010, representing Canada at the FIBA U17 World Championship (2010), U19 World Championship (2011) and the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup.  He last represented Canada during the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Ruth Hamblin, a six-foot-six centre for Politechnika Gdanska (Poland), led her team to an 80-73 victory over Wroclaw with 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Drafted into the WNBA in 2016 by the Dallas Wings, Hamblin played one season in North America before continuing her career overseas in Australia, France, Belgium, Russia and most recently, Poland. As a member of the Senior Women’s National Team, the 26-year-old from Houston, B.C has had the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2017 FIBA Women’s Americup, where she helped Canada win its second consecutive gold medal at the tournament, as well as the 2018 Commonwealth Games, 2019 Pan American Games, FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2019 and most recently the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Americas Tournament 2019 in Edmonton. Next up, she’ll have her sights set on reaching the podium at Tokyo 2020, where Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team is considered a strong contender for an Olympic medal.
