Team Canada Continues Training Camp in Italy
TORONTO, ON (June 16, 2016) - The men's national team training camp group heads to Europe today to continue training and compete in a 5-game exhibition tournament from June 17th -29th.
In exhibition play, Canada will take on 12th-ranked Croatia, 14th-ranked China and 16th-ranked Puerto Rico. China qualified for the Olympics in 2015, and both Croatia and Puerto Rico will compete in Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in July.
Team Canada will then head to Manila, Philippines from July 5th-10th to compete for a berth to the 2016 Rio Olympics. The final 12-man squad will be announced prior to competition.
In Manila, Canada will play in Group A against 31st-ranked Senegal and 8th-ranked Turkey. The Philippines, France and New Zealand will play in Group B. Media accreditation for the OQT is open until June 24th, details here.
In 2015, Canada finished 2nd at the Pan American Games in Toronto and 3rd at FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico.
