U19 MEN'S NATIONAL TEAM THROUGH TO THE QUARTERFINALS AFTER BEATING KOREA 100-64
?TORONTO, ON – On Canada Day, the U19 Men’s National Team earned a 100-64 victory over Korea in the FIBA U19 World Championships Round of 16 in Heraklion, Greece.
“In the first quarter, they really attacked us. Korea played with extremely high intensity and we seemed a little flat, I think it woke us up a bit,” said Head Coach Roy Rana.
“Changing defences changed the rhythm of the game and in the end, our speed took over and we out-raced them in the end. Our guys responded well and we are happy about that.”
Dillon Brooks led Team Canada to the big win with a near triple-double. The Mississauga, ON native scored 19 points (8-16 FG) with nine rebounds and nine assists. Justin Jackson scored 20 points, while Corey Johnson and Matt Neufeld poured in 13 each. For full box score, click here.

Canada opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run, scoring mostly in transition. A zone defence stymied the Korean side and led to turnovers. Team Canada won the period 21-12 to lead 48-40 at half.
Defence was the story of the third quarter. Canada shut down Korea and held them to 3-17 shooting from the floor. Transition offence gave Team Canada high-percentage looks and the U19 Men’s National Team won the quarter 24-6 to hold a 72-46 lead.
The Canadians were relentless in the fourth, continuing the strong defence from the third quarter. Team Canada showed off their athleticism with a series of powerful dunks and cruised to a 100-64 final score.
