Au 6e rang mondial, le Canada jouera en Espagne et en France

TORONTO, ON (23 mai, 2016) – Douze athlètes ont été sélectionnées à la suite de la première étape du camp d’évaluation de l’équipe nationale féminine afin de se rendre en Europe pour un tournoi de cinq jours en France et en Espagne.

« Cette première étape d’entraînement est concentrée sur notre prochaine génération d’athlètes et pour évaluer où nous en sommes globalement » dit Lisa Thomaidis, entraîneure-chef de l’ÉNFS. « Nous jouerons contre quelques-unes des meilleures équipes au monde au cours de ce tournoi – ce qui nous aidera à établir des jalons – et déterminer sur quoi nous aurons à travailler lors de la deuxième étape. »

Le tournoi de cinq matchs débutera le 26 mai contre l’Espagne (2e au monde). Présentement 6e au classement mondial de la FIBA, le Canada affrontera par la suite le Japon (13e), le Monténégro (27e), la France (3e) et l’Ukraine (41e).

Le Canada se regroupera en juin pour la deuxième étape de l’entraînement qui sera suivie d’un tournoi hors-concours de 6 matchs en Chine. L’étape finale d’entraînement débutera le 23 juillet à Edmonton où l’alignement final de l’AmeriCup féminine 2017 de la FIBA sera confirmé.
