TORONTO, ON (27 juillet 2017) – Les responsables des programmes de haute performance de Canada Basketball sont heureux d’annoncer les noms des 18 joueuses qui prendront part aux essais et au camp d’entraînement de l’équipe nationale féminine de développement qui se tiendront à l’Université Ryerson du 29 juillet au 8 août 2017.

« Nous prévoyons des essais et un camp d’entraînement au cours desquels la compétition entre les joueuses sera vive car nous souhaitons réunir une équipe qui sera en mesure de tirer son épingle du jeu contre des adversaires de classe mondiale à Tokyo et lors des Jeux de la FISU » a déclaré Denise Dignard, la directrice du programme féminin de haute performance chez Canada Basketball. « Nous poursuivons nos efforts en vue d’accroître notre bassin d’athlètes de haut niveau, entre autres en leur donnant l’occasion d’évoluer sur la scène internationale lors de compétitions relevées. »

Une fois la sélection finale connue, l’équipe s’envolera vers Tokyo le 9 août prochain afin de prendre part à l’édition 2017 du tournoi de la Ligue féminine de Basketball des quatre nations U24 où elle affrontera le Japon, les États-Unis et l’Australie. Le Canada jouera son premier match le 12 août contre le pays hôte à compter de 03h30 HAE.

Suite à ce tournoi, l’équipe se dirigera vers Taipei (Taiwan) en vue des 29èmes Jeux universitaires d’été. Elle y disputera son premier match contre le Portugal le 21 août à 03h00 HAE.

Fabian McKenzie (Université du Cap-Breton) sera à la barre de l’équipe pour une 6ème année à titre d’entraîneur chef. Il sera épaulé par deux adjoints, soit Chantal Vallée (Université de Windsor) et Nate McKibbon (Université Mount Royal). Michèle Bélanger (Université de Toronto) se joindra également au groupe d’entraîneurs lors du camp d’entraînement.

Le Canada occupe présentement le 6ème rang du classement mondial de la FIBA.
