TORONTO, ON (le 9 juin 2016) – Canada Basketball a le plaisir d’annoncer la formation de l’équipe nationale masculine U17 2016. Huit membres de l’équipe ayant remporté une médaille d’argent en 2015 sont de retour pour mener l’équipe de 12 joueurs qui rivalisera au championnat mondial U17 de la FIBA à Zaragoza en Espagne.

Nous sommes contents de la progression des joueurs et croyons avoir formé une forte équipe dit Dave DeAveiro, entraîneur-chef. « Nous visons à poursuivre les succès obtenus par la récolte de la médaille d’argent en Argentine et à représenter le Canada sur la scène internationale.

L’équipe terminera son camp d’entraînement à Toronto le 10 juin et se dirigera vers Toulouse en France pour un tournoi hors-concours de trois matchs face à leurs hôtes français, l’Australie et l’Argentine. Par la suite, l’équipe se rendra à Zaragoza pour y représenter le Canada au championnat mondial U17 2016 de la FIBA du 23 juin au 3 juillet.

Dave DeAveiro (Université McGill) est accompagné des adjoints Michael Meeks (Canada Basketball), James Derouin (Université d’Ottawa) et de l’entraîneur-stagiaire Nicky Davis (Collège Sheridan).

En 2015, l’équipe U17 a remporté la médaille d’argent au championnat U16 de la FIBA Amériques, le meilleur résultat à vie du programme. Le Canada est présentement 3e au classement mondial de la FIBA pour les jeunes hommes.
