TORONTO, Ont. (le 11 avril 2023) - Après deux grosses performances sur la scène internationale lors du Nike Hoop Summit 2023, Michael Nwoko et Toby Fournier ont été nommés Joueurs Toyota Canada de la semaine du 3 au 9 avril.

Nwoko, qui jouera pour l’Université de Miami lors de la saison 2023-2024, a inscrit 17 points en tant que remplaçant de la sélection internationale, deuxième meilleur pointeur de son équipe, dans leur courte défaite par la marque de 90 à 84 contre Équipe États-Unis. Le joueur originaire de Milton en Ontario a aussi capté huit rebonds et ajouté deux passes décisives au cours de la rencontre à laquelle il a participé aux côtés de son compatriote canadien Aden Holloway. Nwoko a aidé le Canada à remporter une médaille de bronze lors du Championnat masculin des Amériques FIBA U18 2022 l’été dernier, où il a réalisé une moyenne de 18,2 points par match.

Fournier faisait partie de la sélection internationale lors de la rencontre féminine inaugurale du Nike Hoop Summit, inscrivant un total de 18 points à 7 en 17 aux tirs. La Torontoise a également fini meilleure rebondeuse de son équipe avec un total de neuf rebonds, et a enregistré trois blocs. Fournier a représenté la sélection mondiale aux côtés de ses compatriotes canadiennes Syla Swords et Delaney Gibb, et le trio a été « coach«  » par Carly Clarke, entraîneure adjointe de l’équipe nationale senior féminine et entraîneure-cheffe de l’équipe nationale féminine des moins de 19 ans lors de la Coupe du monde féminine de basketball FIBA U19 l’été dernier en Espagne. Fournier a représenté son pays pour la dernière fois lors de la Coupe du monde féminine de basketball FIBA U17 2022 après avoir affiché une moyenne de 19,4 points par partie (la meilleure moyenne de points de l’équipe), et a aidé le Canada à finir à la quatrième place de la compétition.
