Alors qu’il ne restait plus que 3:45 à jouer dans le quatrième quart et que les Timberwolves du Minnesota n’était plus qu’à cinq points des Nuggets de Denver, Jamal Murray a inscrit un panier à trois points en stepback à 26 pieds du panier pour permettre à son équipe de respirer un peu. Moins de 35 secondes plus tard, il a marqué de nouveau, permettant aux Nuggets de prendre 10 points d’avance pour conclure une performance de 40 points.

Murray a fini avec 40 points, cinq passes décisives, trois rebonds et deux vols dans une victoire des Nuggets de Denver par la marque de 122 à 112 contre les Timberwolves de Minnesota pour mener 2 à 0 dans cette série mercredi. C’est la cinquième fois que Murray inscrit au moins 40 points en série, soit plus qu’en saison régulière (4 fois).

L’entraîneur-chef des Nuggets Michael Malone était visiblement heureux pour Murray et ils se sont tous les deux pris dans les bras après la sonnerie finale. Le retour au jeu à été long pour le joueur de 26 ans de Kitchener, après avoir manqué toute la saison dernière à cause d’une blessure de la LCA. Dans le vestiaire après la rencontre, Malone a distingué la grande soirée de Murray, en lui remettant l’une des deux chaînes de l’équipe, qui sont données aux joueurs ayant réalisé des performances exceptionnelles.

Devant les journalistes après la rencontre, Malone a parlé de la détermination que Murray avait montré dans la victoire, évoquant le fait qu’il avait fait jouer son garde pendant 39 minutes dans la victoire. « Ce gars est un soldat, » a déclaré Malone. « Je vais probablement devoir le porter dans l’avion demain quand nous allons partir dans le Minnesota. »

Alors que les deux prochains matchs de la série vont se jouer dans le Minnesota, Murray va chercher à continuer de briller comme il en a l’habitude de faire dans l’après-saison. Les deux équipes vont jouer les matchs 3 et 4 dans le Minnesota vendredi et dimanche. 

- Du côté de Golden State, Andrew Wiggins a inscrit 20 points dans une victoire des Warriors remportée par la marque de 114 à 97 contre les Kings de Sacramento, permettant à Golden State de remporter sa première victoire dans cette série et de n’être plus mené que 2 à 1 après que Golden State a perdu les deux premiers matchs de la série à Sacramento. Wiggins a fini deuxième meilleur pointeur de l’équipe dans la victoire, derrière Steph Curry qui a fini meilleur pointeur de la rencontre grâce à un total de 36 points. Wiggins a tiré à 8 en 16, dont 3 en 6 derrière la ligne des trois points pour finir avec 20 points, tout en ajoutant sept rebonds, trois passes décisives et un bloc en 34 minutes de jeu après avoir été absent ces deux derniers mois à cause de problèmes personnels. Malgré son absence, Wiggins a su répondre présent et a maintenu son état de forme pendant cette période.

- Et à Memphis, Dillon Brooks a contribué pleinement à la victoire des Grizzlies remportée par la marque de 103 à 93 contre les Lakers de Los Angeles mercredi. Brooks a marqué 12 points et a été physique en défense, comme il a l’habitude de faire, aidant ainsi les Grizzlies à égaliser à un match partout. Brooks a affiché une moyenne de 14,3 points, 3,3 rebonds, 2,6 passes décisives et près d’une interception par match en 30,3 minutes par rencontre dans sa sixième saison NBA.

- La saison de Shai Gilgeous-Alexander est peut-être déjà terminée, mais il continue de recevoir des distinctions. Après avoir enregistré une moyenne de 31,4 points, 4,8 rebonds, 5,5 passes décisives, 1,0 bloc et 1,6 vols par match dans sa cinquième saison et avoir été nommé All-Star NBA pour la première fois, Gilgeous-Alexander est finaliste pour le prix du Joueur le plus amélioré de la ligue. La NBA a annoncé que le joueur d’Hamilton était un des prétendants au titre aux côtés de Jalen Brunson des Knicks de New York et Lauri Markannen du Jazz d’Utah.

- Zach Edey a l’habitude d’être le joueur le plus grand sur le terrain, mais il était encore plus grand sur une affiche à Yonge-Dundas Square la semaine passée. Cette affiche célébrait le titre de joueur national de l’année remportée par Edey et Purdue n’a pas perdu de temps pour publier cela sur son compte Twitter.

Après avoir remporté tous les titres de joueur de l’année, Edey a annoncé cette semaine qu’il serait candidat au repêchage NBA tout en maintenant son éligibilité en NCAA.

- En parlant de Carleton, L’équipe nationale senior féminine du Canada va aller à Victoria. Le programme a annoncé que l’ÉNSF accueillera le Japon, médaillé d’argent en titre des Jeux olympiques de Tokyo 2020, dans le cadre d’un match amical qui se jouera au Save-On-Foods-Memorial Centre à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique le vendredi 2 juin. 

L’événement « Rim-to-Rim » célèbre la rivalité du Pacifique entre le Canada et le Japon. Ce sera la première fois en plus de 20 ans que l’ÉNSF jouera une rencontre à Victoria. Avant d’affronter le Japon, l’équipe nationale senior féminine ira en Alberta pour y organiser un camp d’entraînement qui marquera le début de la route vers les Jeux olympiques de Paris 2024.
