TORONTO (June 28, 2024) - Canada Basketball announced Friday the U17 Men's National Team Roster roster for the upcoming FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2024.

The FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from June 29 to July 7. All the games will be streamed live on FIBA's YouTube channel.

The 16 competing teams were divided into four groups of four teams each. Canada is in Group D and will compete against Germany (June 29, 8:00 a.m. ET), Egypt (June 30, 5:30 a.m. ET), and Australia (July 2, 10:30 a.m. ET) in the Group Phase.

Following the Group Phase, all sixteen teams will advance to the competition's Final Phase with a single-elimination format in place from the Round of 16 onwards.  The winners of the Round of 16 will advance to the quarterfinals, while the other teams will play in the Classification Games for places 9-16.

Five players are returning from the U16 Men’s National Team that captured silver at the FIBA U16 Men's Americas Championship last summer. Patrick Anamali, Jordan Charles, Quinten Ethier, Maxime Meyer, and Paul Osaruyi will return to the court after qualifying for the event as a group.

A majority of the coaching staff is also returning after last summer’s silver medal finish. Chris Cheng will return as head coach and be joined on the bench by assistant coaches Willy Manigat, Peter Guarasci, and Dan Van Hooren.

This year’s FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup will be the event's seventh edition. Canada’s highest finish at the tournament was a bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men. Several Senior Men’s National Team players dominated the event in the past, including RJ Barrett, Andrew Wiggins, and Jamal Murray.

Canada finished 9th at the FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2022 and is looking to build on that result this week.

Canada is currently ranked 9th overall in the FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike, following the conclusion of the FIBA 2023 Youth Events.
