TORONTO (March 20, 2024) - With the Madness beginning this week, 43 Canadians are vying for college basketball’s top prize.

Of the Canadians competing, 22 Canadian women will battle for the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, while 21 Canadian men are in the running to capture the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

Twenty-two Canadians in this year’s tournaments have represented Canada at either the age-group or Senior National Team level, including Zach Edey (Purdue) who captured a historic bronze medal with Canada last summer at the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023.

Other medalists include Notre Dame’s Cassandre Prosper (bronze – FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023 / FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023), Duke’s Emma Koabel (bronze – FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2023), and TCU’s Emanuel Miller (gold – FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2017).

When the tournament tips off on Thursday, three Canadians will be on the No.1 seeded teams: Zach Edey (Purdue), Emanuel Sharp (Houston), and Roxanne Makolo (USC).

GLOBL JAM, a world-class international basketball showcase hosted the past two years in downtown Toronto, continues to develop some of the country’s top NextGen players. Nine players in this year’s tournaments have represented Canada in the competition. Kentucky (men) and Louisville (women), who represented the United States last year, are also in this year’s NCAA tournaments.
