ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (August 13, 2022) – Delaney Gibb scored 19 points as she helped lead Team Alberta to a gold medal with a 71-60 victory over Team Saskatchewan Saturday in the girls’ basketball tournament at the 2022 Canada Games.
Sitting with just 10 points after three quarters, Gibb asserted herself in the final frame, scoring nine in the period as she took control of the game in the final five minutes of play and iced it for Alberta.
On the boys’ side of things, Team Ontario captured gold with an 81-70 victory over Team British Columbia. Ontario used a massive third quarter to send them to the title. Entering that frame tied up a 43 apiece, Ontario finished it ahead 65-46 and cruised in the fourth to the championship.
The bronze medals were awarded to Team Nova Scotia for the boys’ competition after it downed Alberta, 90-83, and Ontario, who cruised past Team Quebec, 57-36, in the girls’ tournament.
Other results from Saturday saw, in the boys’ tournament, Quebec finish in fifth place after beating Team New Brunswick, 90-57, and Team Newfoundland and Labrador took seventh place with a 91-87 win over Team Saskatchewan.
In the girls’ event, British Columbia took fifth, defeating Nova Scotia, 72-34, and New Brunswick triumphed over Team Manitoba, 86-63, to claim seventh.
