TORONTO (Apr. 1, 2025) - Aaron Best and Avery Howell have been named the Players of the Week for Mar. 24-30.
Best has been finding success this season with Trefl Sopot in the Polish league. The guard from Scarborough, Ont. put up a dominant performance this week, scoring 31 points along with seven rebounds and four assists in a narrow overtime loss against Torun. With this performance, he became the 10th player in Trefl Sopot history to record multiple 30+ point games, and now ranks 17th on the club’s all-time scoring list. Best last suited up for Canada at the third FIBA AmeriCup qualifying window in February, where he helped the Senior Men’s National team secure their spot in this summer’s tournament.
Howell continues to make waves in her freshman season at USC. The Boise, Ida. native has remained consistent throughout March Madness play, dropping 18 points and six assists in a dominant second-round win against Mississippi State, followed by 18 points, eight rebounds, and four steals in a Sweet 16 victory over Kansas State to help send the Trojans to the Elite Eight. Howell came into USC off of a successful high-school career at Boise High, where she set the school single-season scoring (551 points) and rebounding (354 rebounds) records, and was a two-time Gatorade Idaho State Player of the Year. Howell last suited up for Canada with the Senior Women’s National Team in Victoria this past summer as part of their Olympic training camp roster in an exhibition game against Portugal.
