Canada’s U18 Men’s National Team is headed to the semifinals at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2026 in León, Mexico, looking to extend its undefeated run.
Canada opened the tournament with a commanding 105-51 victory over Venezuela, showcasing their depth and balance. In his national team debut, Lyris Robinson led all Canadian scorers with 19 points, while Javion Tyndale added 15. Maxime Meyer filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, four steals and one block.
Canada faced a tougher test in their second game against the Dominican Republic. After a closely contested opening quarter, the Dominican Republic outscored Canada in both the second and third quarters and cut the deficit to five points in the third. Canada responded with a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring the Dominican Republic 28-16 to secure a 100-79 victory. Robinson led the way with 16 points, while Deng Ngor, Settimo Yugu and Godson Okokoh also finished in double figures.
Canada closed out the group stage with a 101-48 victory over Puerto Rico, finishing atop Group B to earn a semifinal bye and secure qualification for the FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup 2027. Malik Olajuwon paced the offence with 15 points on 75% shooting, while also recording four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.
Canada now turns its attention to the semifinals, where they will face Puerto Rico in a rematch on Saturday, June 6th at 7:30 PM ET / 4:30 PM PT. A victory would send Canada to Sunday’s gold-medal game (time to be determined).
