TORONTO (May 7, 2026) — Canada Basketball announced Thursday the 10 athletes invited to attend the 3x3 Senior Women’s National Team training camp in Calgary ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series season.
Athletes will train at the Winsport Event Centre and the University of Calgary from May 9-13.
“There’s a great energy around this group right now,” said Steve Baur, General Manager and Vice-President of Women’s High Performance at Canada Basketball. “Our focus is on identifying every element required to reach the podium in Los Angeles, and with the level of talent and momentum we have in camp, we’re eager to get started.”
Veteran leadership continues to make a presence in camp, with Katherine Plouffe, Paige Crozon and Kacie Bosch – all members of Canada’s fourth-place team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – returning after playing key roles throughout the 2025 season.
Saicha Grant-Allen has also been named to the training camp roster following a standout 2025 campaign, highlighted by MVP honours at the inaugural Champions Cup, the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Final and Bordeaux Women’s Series stop, in addition to being named to the team of the tournament at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
Canada will continue integrating athletes with a 5-on-5 background, as Niyah Becker attends her first 3x3 training camp following her most recent appearance with the Senior Women’s National Team at the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul, Turkiye this past March.
Merissah Russell returns after a strong 3x3 debut at the 2025 3x3 AmeriCup, where Canada earned silver, while Tara Wallack and Taya Hanson bring prior 3x3 success as members of Canada’s gold medal-winning team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which marked the debut of 3x3 basketball at the event.
“We’re continuing to evaluate and explore the combinations that will give us the best chance to succeed in Los Angeles, while also building toward the future of the women’s program in Canada,” Baur added. “It’s been exciting to see the dedication and commitment across the entire athlete pool as we work to keep moving forward.”
Following training camp, four athletes will travel to Shanghai, China for Canada’s first stop of the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, taking place on May 16-17.
Canada will then head to Warsaw, Poland for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 from June 1-7.
Final rosters for both tournaments will be announced prior to the start of competition.
Canada delivered a strong 2025 campaign across the international 3x3 circuit, highlighted by gold at the inaugural FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, bronze at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup, silver at the 3x3 AmeriCup, and a third overall FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Final title.
