TORONTO (Mar. 11, 2025) – Canada Basketball announced Tuesday the 3x3 Women’s National Team who will represent Canada at the first-ever FIBA 3x3 Champions Cup 2025.
The recently-announced FIBA event will take place later this month in Bangkok as 16 of the best 3x3 squads in the world, including Canada's 3x3 Women’s National Team, take to Thailand for the inaugural tournament. Round robin action is set for Friday, Mar. 14 and Saturday, Mar. 15, before semifinals, gold medal and bronze medal games take place on Sunday, Mar. 16.
Kacie Bosch, Paige Crozon, Saicha Grant-Allen and Katherine Plouffe will reunite in Bangkok, following their AmeriCup gold medal in San Juan, Puerto Rico this past December. The podium finish was capped off by a thrilling 19-18 overtime win over the USA to capture the country’s second-ever gold medal at the event.
“I think this event is a really interesting addition to the schedule. I think it’s a cool idea,” said Katherine Plouffe. ”These types of tournaments will always be fun when I’m with Paige, Kacie and Saicha, as well as all the staff. We have a great time, work hard and have fun, and with the event being in Thailand — there will be no exceptions to that.”
Joining Canada in Pool A are China, Germany and Madagascar, while France, Spain, Australia and Thailand comprise Pool B.
All the action will be streamed on the FIBA 3x3 YouTube Channel.
The Champions Cup will be held annually and feature continental cup winners, feature the Olympic gold medallists this year before shifting to World Cup champions in subsequent competitions, the top two-ranked women’s teams, and the host nation. Canada earned entry thanks to their AmeriCup gold medal, which helped the 3x3 women’s program rise to sixth in the FIBA 3x3 Federation Rankings.
The event serves as an official tip-off for the 2025 3x3 calendar, which is highlighted by the 2025 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia this June.
“I’m looking forward to the new season with the team. I’m looking forward to seeing how we elevate, how we change and adapt, get more creative with the game,” said Plouffe.
