Canada announces roster for FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (August 17, 2026) Canada Basketball announced Monday the 12 athletes who will represent Canada at the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2026, set for Aug. 17-23 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The tournament marks the opening stage of Canada’s qualification journey for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the beginning of a new cycle for the Senior Women’s National Team.

Canada’s roster is headlined by Kayla Alexander, a two-time Olympian and the program’s all-time leader in career rebounds. Alexander represented Canada at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games and is one of five Olympians named to the team, alongside Yvonne Ejim, Sami Hill, Shaina Pellington and Syla Swords.

The roster also reflects the continued progression of Canada’s next generation. Jasmine Bascoe, Avery Howell, Agot Makeer and Cearah Parchment are set to make their FIBA Senior team debuts, one year after representing Canada at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2025.

Swords, who became the youngest Canadian women’s basketball player to compete at an Olympic Games when she debuted at Paris 2024, was also a member of Canada’s U19 team last summer.

“This tournament represents an important first step on our path to LA 2028,” said Steve Baur, Vice-President and General Manager, Women’s High Performance. “We were intentional in building a roster that combines Olympic experience with young athletes ready to make their senior team debuts and help shape the program’s future.

“We’ve focused on creating an environment in which this group can thrive, and there is a great deal of excitement throughout the program as we begin this new cycle.”

Canada will compete in Group B alongside host Mexico, the Philippines and Senegal. Group A features Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand and South Sudan.

Canada opens round-robin play against Senegal on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT before facing the Philippines on Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT. The team closes the preliminary round against Mexico on Aug. 20 at 10:30 p.m. ET / 7:30 p.m. PT.

All games will be streamed live on DAZN or FIBA’s YouTube channel. Press Conferences following each game will be streamed live on the FIBA Media YouTube channel.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on Aug. 22, with the tournament final set for Aug. 23.

The tournament champion will earn a berth in one of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, scheduled for February 2028.

The seven remaining teams in Guadalajara will retain an opportunity to reach the Olympic qualifying tournaments through their respective continental championships next summer.
