QUEBEC CITY, Quebec (August 21, 2022) -- The Canadian Women’s 3x3 Team fell to Lithuania 19-13 in the semifinals of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Quebec stop on Saturday.
Lithuania’s Kamile Nacickaite had eight points and eight rebounds to lead all scorers, while Canada was led by Paige Crozon’s five points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Maël Gilles scored the first point of the game to put Canada ahead 1-0, but Lithuania responded with five straight points until Gilles scored again to make it 5-2 Lithuania with 7:59 remaining.
Lithuania began to heat up from beyond the arc and used a trio of three-pointers to aid in a 10-1 run to build a 15-3 advantage before Rosalie Mercille drove to the hoop and scored to snap the run with 3:57 remaining. Crozon followed up Mercille’s basket by connecting on Canada’s first two-point shot of the game to get Canada back within single digits, 15-6, with 3:06 remaining.
After the teams traded baskets, Mercille drilled a two-point shot of her own to get Canada within eight points with 1:18 remaining. Lithuania didn’t score again, but despite another bucket from Gilles and a two-point shot from Crozon to get Canada within six with seven seconds remaining, the Canadians ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Canada finished the Quebec series stop finishing fourth. After defeating Canada, Lithuania advanced to the series stop final and fell to the U.S. who won their first series stop of 2022.
Despite the fourth-place finish, Canada and the U.S. both finished atop the leader boards for fewest points allowed at the stop (12.8).
Up next for Canada is the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Eaubonne stop in France on Aug. 26 and 27.
