BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (June 8, 2024) - Canada couldn’t keep up with USA, an undefeated team at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024, as they fell 69-107 in the semifinals.
Canada came out battling, only down by two possessions at the end of the first quarter. Jalen Rougier-Roane led the way with five points to keep Canada within six.
However, USA ran with the lead and had eight players finish the game in double-digits.
For Canada, Spencer Ahrens finished with a team-high 13 points. Meanwhile, Tristan Beckford and Tyrus Rathan-Mayes finished with nine points apiece.
Canada will have a chance at a medal tomorrow evening in the bronze medal match against the loser of the Dominican Republic versus Argentina.
“We are obviously disappointed in the loss today, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that we have an opportunity to play for a medal tomorrow,” said head coach Ramón Díaz.
“We need to take tonight to rest so that tomorrow we are ready to compete at the highest level and bring bronze back to Canada.”
Fans can catch the bronze medal game on YouTube on Sunday, June 9, at 4:40 p.m. ET / 1:40 p.m. PT.
