GUANAJUATO, MEXICO (August 25, 2021) - Canada finished the Group Phase 3-0 at the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship 2021 with a 102-50 win over Puerto Rico on Wednesday afternoon.
The win was a clear reflection of team effort with Jada Bediako and Bree Robinson collecting 13 points apiece, while Summer Bostock, Cassandre Prosper and Marina Rodocaj each scored 11 points in the victory.
"This was a great team win today," said head coach Cheryl Jean-Paul. "The team really stepped up and responded to the challenges that we gave them."
The rising star of the game was no doubt Delaney Gibb who picked up a double-double with a 23 point and 11 rebound performance. Gibb also contributed two steals and two blocks in the win.
"We were really working well as a team, distributing the ball well and really showing our chemistry," said Robinson. "We are getting more confident and getting to know each other better each day and each game and that's going to show on the court moving forward."
Canada dominated defensively with 73 rebounds, 12 steals, and 10 blocks helping them to break 100 point threshold and win by more than 50 points for the second game in a row.
"We had a few different defensive schemes that we tried which gave us some really good opportunities to transition and score," said Jean-Paul.
With the victory, Canada finishes the Group Phase undefeated and atop Group A. Canada will have a day of rest on Thursday before taking on Chile on Friday at 3:30 PM ET in the quarter-finals.
"We are looking forward to a really great playoff run," said Jean-Paul.
