BUCARAMANGA, Colombia (June 19, 2024) - Canada’s U18 Women’s National Team remained on top of Group A at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2024, going 3-0 heading into the quarterfinals on Friday.
Canada continued their dominant start in their final group play game against the Dominican Republic, starting the first quarter on a 10-2 run. Taliyah Henderson, who finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists, was aggressive toward the rim from the start, getting to the free-throw line a couple of times and scoring seven of Canada’s first 18 points.
The team hit 20 points before the end of the first quarter and picked up steam from there. Divine Tumba, who has averaged a near double-double this week, went on her own mini-run to put Canada up 24-8 and finished the game with 16 points and six rebounds.
From there, the threes started to rain down. Taliyah Henderson, Nyadieng Yiech, Patricia Augustin, and Jasmine Bascoe hit triples to put the team up 60-12 at halftime, with Bascoe hitting three triples down that stretch in the second quarter.
Kamora Morgan shone in the second half, hitting three of her six three-point attempts and finishing the game with a team-high 17 points on 7-10 shooting.
The team did not let up, recording 21 steals overall and finishing the game with a 117-27 win over the Dominican Republic. Canada and the USA won their pool 3-0, and all teams will now head to the quarterfinal stage.
Canada will face Mexico on Friday, June 21, at 1:40 p.m. ET / 10:40 a.m. PT for a spot in the semifinals. Fans can watch all the action live on FIBA's YouTube channel.
