EDMONTON, AB (July 6, 2018) - Canada's Senior Women's National Team defeated Turkey 73-46 in the second game of the Edmonton Grads International Classic (EGIC) on Friday evening.

Canada's mid-range shot and rebounding fueled their play for the first quarter as they pushed out to an early lead against a shortened Turkey roster.  After the first quarter, Canada led Turkey 21-14.

Canada stretched the floor during the second quarter as they started to feel more comfortable from distance and it payed off as they continued to expand their lead.  Going into the second half Canada led 40-26.

With five players scoring at least five points going into the second half, Canada's ability to share the ball continued into the third quarter as they kept their lead.  Going into the final 10 minutes of play, Canada held a 57-38 lead.

Canada built on their lead and improved their execution on both ends in the fourth quarter as they swapped between man and zone defence as well as taking shots from around the court.  Canada took the victory over Turkey 73-46.

The Edmonton Grads International Classic will help Canada continue preparations for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 (Sept. 22-30) in Tenerife, Spain.

Canada is currently ranked a program-high 5th in the FIBA World ranking presented by Nike.

The Edmonton Grads International Classic is named in honour of the women's basketball team who rose to fame en route to setting a North American record with the best winning percentage (96.2 percent) of all-time. The team won 502 of 522 official games and also claimed the first women's world basketball title in 1924.
