ISTANBUL, Turkey (July 3, 2024) - Canada’s U17 Men’s National Team beat Argentina 77-71 to move on to the FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2024 quarterfinals.

Coming off a tight loss to Australia, Canada started the first half by going bucket-and-bucket with Argentina, bringing the game to a tie at halftime.

Jordan Charles, Miles Sadler, Paul Osaruyi, and Stefan Ilic all led with 7+ points in the first twenty minutes.

“I think some of the things that we have done well as a group this week is playing together, whether it’s on the defensive end or offensive and, you know, just being able to compete and come in with high energy,” said Paul Osaruyi, who finished the game with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Canada gained a lead heading into the fourth quarter, which they would hold to close out the game and secure their spot in the quarterfinals.

“We celebrated individuals that stepped up tonight, like TJ Wal, who helped us get a big win,” said head coach Chris Cheng. Wal finished with seven points and three rebounds.

Four players finished in double-digits, with both Jordan Charles and Miles Sadler scoring 18 points. Stefan Ilic crashed the glass to finish with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Canada will face the USA for a spot in the semifinals on Friday, July 5, at 8 a.m. ET / 5 a.m. PT.
