Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team are set to square off with Argentina, Brazil, Dominican Republic, and El Salvador in Group A, when action gets underway in Santiago, Chile. The event will take place from June 28-July 6, as Canada looks to claim its fourth-ever Women’s AmeriCup title and improve on a third-place finish in 2023.

The teams were drawn out of five pots, with Pot 1 consisting of El Salvador and Chile, Pot 2 containing Pot 3 made up of Brazil and Puerto Rico, Pot 4 holding Colombia and Argentina, and finally Pot 5 is composed of Dominican Republic and Mexico.

The top four teams in each group will advance to the quarter-finals. From there, a single-knockout format will follow. The top six teams will earn entry into 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments.

Meanwhile, the Senior Men’s National Team will travel to Managua, Nicaragua, where they will share Group B with Panama, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela.

The teams were drawn out of four pots, with Pot 1 consisting of USA, Canada and Nicaragua, Pot 2 containing Argentina, Brazil and Puerto Rico, Pot 3 made up of Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Uruguay, and finally Pot 4 holding Bahamas, Colombia and Panama.

The event, which will be contested in Nicaragua for the first time ever, will be held from Aug. 22-31. Canada went 4-2 in qualifying, buoyed by a trio of wins on home soil in St. Catharines, Ont. and Saskatoon, Sask. to help them qualify for the AmeriCup.

Canada has never claimed a Men’s AmeriCup championship, with the Senior Men’s National Team’s best finish at the event coming in 1980 and 1999 when they finished second. Canada’s last Men’s AmeriCup medal came in 2015.

The top two teams in each of the three groups will automatically advance to the quarter-finals and will be joined by the top-two third-placed teams. From there, a single-knockout format will follow.
