As the NBA preseason is nearing its end and opening day just a couple of weeks away, Canada currently has 15 athletes in NBA training camp with final rosters to be announced October 27th. This comes on the heels of the record four players selected in June’s NBA Draft, which included three first-round picks.

Joel Anthony (Montreal, QC) – Detroit Pistons: Anthony should provide Detroit with a veteran big man with championship experience that can help mentor the younger players.

Anthony Bennett (Brampton, ON) - Minnesota Timberwolves: With a strong summer league performance, the 2013 1st overall pick looks to establish himself as a key contributor to the young squad, alongside fellow Canadians Andrew Wiggins and Brady Heslip.

Khem Birch (Montreal, QC) - Miami Heat: Birch, who started all six games for the Washington Wizards summer league team and led them in offensive rebounds, signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Heat this summer, and looks to secure a place on the team’s final roster.

Samuel Dalembert (Montreal, QC) - New York Knicks: Coming over from the Mavericks in the offseason, the Knicks added Dalembert to help provide the team’s small front court with a much needed rim protector.

Tyler Ennis (Brampton, ON) - Phoenix Suns: With a high basketball IQ and one of the lowest turnover rates in college, Ennis, drafted 18th-overall, looks to make his mark in his rookie NBA season.

Brady Heslip (Burlington, ON) - Minnesota Timberwolves: After a successful summer league showing, the 3-point specialist signed a training camp deal this offseason in hopes of making the final roster.

Cory Joseph (Toronto, ON) - San Antonio Spurs: Fresh-off an NBA Championship and entering into his contract year with the Spurs, Joseph will look to help the Spurs become back-back champions for the first time in franchise history.

Steve Nash (Victoria, BC) - Los Angeles Lakers: Two-time MVP and eight-time all-star, Nash, will look to use his veteran experience to help get his team back in the playoffs.

Andrew Nicholson (Mississauga, ON) - Orlando Magic: Heading into his third season, Nicholson is the longest-tenured player on the Magic and is beginning to carve out his role in the team’s rotation.

Kelly Olynyk (Kamloops, BC) - Boston Celtics: Recently announced as the Celtics starting centre, Olynyk looks to push his club into playoff contention.

Dwight Powell (Toronto, ON) - Boston Celtics: Drafted 45th overall by the Hornets, and two-time All-Pac-12 first team at Stanford, Powell hopes for an extended stay with the Celtics.

Robert Sacre (Vancouver, BC) - Los Angeles Lakers: By solidifying himself as a rotation player in his second year, the high energy Vancouver native will try to cement his NBA presence in year three.

Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, ON) - Sacramento Kings: The 8th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft and Big Ten player of the Year at Michigan, Stauskas, brings his shooting ability to a talented Kings team

Tristan Thompson (Toronto, ON) - Cleveland Cavaliers: After starting all 82 games last season and nearly averaging a double-double, Thompson hopes to add a NBA championship to his resume after a summer of key additions to the Cavs roster.

Andrew Wiggins (Toronto, ON) - Minnesota Timberwolves: Coming off a strong year at the University of Kansas, Wiggins, the 1st overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, will have plenty of opportunities to contribute as he joins a young Timberwolves team.
