“It’s truly an honour to be named head coach for the inaugural women’s game at the Nike Hoops Summit,” said Clarke. “Over the years, there have been so many great players and coaches that have represented Canada in the men’s game and it’s exciting that the women’s program will now have the same opportunity. Not only am I looking forward to coaching three standout Canadians for the first time, but also a tremendously talented group of players from around the world.”
The trio represented Canada last summer at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2022.
Fournier, a 6-foot-2 forward, finished second on the team in scoring at the event, averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, which led the competition.
Originally from Raymond, Alberta, Gibb, a 5-foot-10 guard, led the team in assists with 3.3 per game, eighth best in the tournament.
Making her national team debut in Hungary, Swords did a little bit of everything for Canada as she averaged 4.7 points, 4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in helping the team to a fourth place, their highest since a third place finish in 2012.
Joining Clarke on the bench as an assistant coach is fellow Canadian Shae Dheensaw.
The 2023 World Select Team selects its roster from FIBA Africa, FIBA Americas, FIBA Asia, FIBA Europe and FIBA Oceania, with approved sanction of FIBA, the governing body of international basketball.
Held annually since 1995, except for 2001-03 and 2020-21, the Nike Hoop Summit has been in Portland since 2008.
