Bronze Medal: Ottawa 92-85 Acadia (OT)

The Ottawa University Gee-Gees ended their season Sunday afternoon with a 92-85 overtime win topping Acadia in the bronze medal match of the CIS Final 8, the best showing in program history.

Ottawa was led by graduating senior Warren Ward's 16 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in a game-high 40 minutes, concluding a strong "comeback" season from an ACL injury last campaign.

Freshmen Mehdi Tihani and Caleb Agada played significant roles in the team win. Tihani finished with a game-high 23 points, while Caleb Agada provided defence and versatility off the bench. Gabriel Gonthier-Dubue added 14 points and five rebounds.

First team All-CIS forward Owen Klassen had 20 points and six rebounds in the loss, and guard Tyler Scott missed a cance to win the game with a buzzer-beating triple at the end of regulation, but finished with 18 points including four three-pointers.

Gee-Gees head coach James Derouin has already led the Ottawa basketball program to its best finish in school history in just his third year as bench boss, and with the young core remaining with the team, they should see success for years to come.

CIS Final: Carleton 92-42 Lakehead

With the 50-point victory in the national championship game, the Carleton Ravens put a firm seal on their record ninth CIS title and accomplished the feat at home in Ottawa in front of a supportive crowd of fans, friends, and family.

Thomas Scrubb was named the player of the game and the CIS Final 8 MVP and has played his best basketball over the past five weeks. A long, talented, end-to-end performer, the elder Scrubb defends the best player on the other team each game while also finding shots on the offensive end.

Thomas finished with 17 points and eight rebounds while younger brother Philip Scrubb, the back-to-back CIS Player of the Year, put in 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Tyson Hinz added 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Lakehead was led by the 10 points and 10 rebounds of Dwayne Harvey, and the Silver medals the Thunderwolves wear around their necks is a mark of accomplishment to the six graduating seniors who put five years of effort into building the program.

It is the third consecutive national championship for the Carleton Ravens, and ninth in the past 11 years, a true dynasty and the greatest ever at the CIS level.
