Day 3 Recap: Quarter-final matchups finalized as National Championships heat up

Preliminary Group games are in the books, as Day 3 has come and gone at the Canada Basketball 15U & 17U Boys and Girls National Championships.

In arguably the game of the tournament thus far, Newfoundland & Labrador moved past New Brunswick in a crazy finish in Calgary in 15U Girls action. A last second free throw make was enough to help Newfoundland & Labrador pick up the 59-58 win.


Meanwhile in Sherbrooke, in a pair of quarter-final clashes on the 17U Boys side, Alberta defeated Saskatchewan with a 95-79 win, while Ontario moved past Manitoba with a 92-69 win. They are each now through to Friday’s semifinals.


Quarter-final action continues on Thursday, as Quebec meets with New Brunswick, while British Columbia battles Nova Scotia.

In 15U Boys, British Columbia vs. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia vs. Quebec, Alberta vs. Newfoundland & Labrador and Ontario vs. Manitoba highlight Thursday’s quarter-final meetings.

In Calgary, Quebec vs. Manitoba and Ontario vs. Newfoundland & Labrador highlight 15U Girls quarter-finals, while Saskatchewan and British Columbia have direct byes to Friday’s semifinals. 

In 17U Girls, British Columbia vs. Manitoba and Ontario vs. Newfoundland & Labrador will battle for respective semifinal tickets.

The Canada Basketball 15U & 17U National Championships are the premier national amateur sport events for the Canadian basketball community. 

Each summer, Canada’s top next generation of high performance athletes at the 15U and 17U age groups, competes for the National Championship title while representing their home province/territory.
