TORONTO, Ont. (March 13, 2023) - Zach Edey and Laeticia Amihere have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for March 6 - March 12.

Edey continued his monster junior year, helping lead the Purdue Boilermakers to the Big Ten Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon with a win over Penn State. The Torontonian recorded back-to-back 30-point performances in the semifinal and final, helping him earn Big Ten Tournament MVP honours. Earlier in the week, Edey was named the Big Ten Player of the Year, a Sporting News All-American and the Sporting News National Player of the Year. Purdue is a No. 1 seed entering the NCAA Tournament, which they will begin on Friday night against either Fairleigh Dickinson or Texas Southern. Edey suited up for the Canadian Men’s National Team this summer, helping Canada qualify for the 2023 FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup.

Amihere joined Edey in starring on a conference’s brightest stage. The Mississauga, Ont. product had a pair of big games in the SEC Tournament’s semifinal and quarter-final. Amihere had a tournament-high 17 points in the South Carolina Gamecocks win over Ole Miss, while also chipping in six rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. Amihere and the Gamecocks will begin their NCAA Tournament defence on Friday as a No. 1 seed, setting them up for Friday’s first-round matchup against Norfolk State. Amihere represented Canada this past fall at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, helping the National Women’s Team to a fourth-place finish in Australia — the program’s best finish since 1986.
