TORONTO, ONT. (Nov. 28, 2024) – Canada Basketball announced Thursday the 11 athletes to attend training camp in Toronto this week ahead of the 2024 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup.
The 2024 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup will be held Dec. 12-15, 2024 as the event makes its return to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Fans can stream all the action live on the FIBA 3x3 YouTube channel.
Alex Johnson, Jerome Desrosiers and Kamar McKnight are all a part of the training camp roster after each suiting up for Canada at the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Debrecen, Hungary last spring.
Johnson has suited up for Canada in every FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup since the event’s instalment in 2021. Steve Sir is the lone other player in camp that has competed for Canada in the event, after last starring on the team in 2021.
The 3x3 Men’s National Team will be looking for its first-ever podium finish in the event which began in 2021. Canada finished seventh in 2023 after falling in overtime 16-15 to Brazil in a quarterfinal clash last December.
Entering the event as the No. 3 seed, Canada will share Group C with Argentina and one of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Costa Rica, who will compete in qualifying draw action for a berth in the event.
Canada is currently ranked 19th (Men) and 13th (Combined) in the FIBA 3x3 Federation Rankings.
