MIAMI, Florida (May 1, 2023) – Following the FIBA U16 Men’s Americas Championship draw, Canada is set to compete against Uruguay, Dominican Republic, and Brazil this summer in Yucatan, Mexico from June 5-11.
The official draw took place on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the FIBA Regional Office in the Americas in Miami, and saw the teams placed in pairs according to their position in the current FIBA Nike Youth Rankings – Canada is currently ranked seventh in the world.
Canada has been placed in group B for the group phase, with each team play one game against every other opponent to determine the qualifying order for the quarterfinals.

The Canadian U16 Men’s National Team has a strong record in recent years, placing as high as third in 2021 after a 92-76 win over the Dominican Republic. The team will be led by U16 Men's National Team Head Coach, Chris Cheng.
The top four teams from the FIBA U16 Men’s Americas Championship will advance to the FIBA U17 Men’sWorld Cup in Turkey, in June 2024.
