MIAMI, Florida (May 1, 2023) – Canada Basketball is pleased to announce that the official draw for the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship 2023, to be held in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico from June 13 to 19, 2023, has been completed.
The draw took place on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the FIBA Regional Office in the Americas in Miami, and saw the teams placed in pairs according to their position in the current FIBA Youth Nike Ranking – Canada is currently ranked fifth in the world.
Canada has been placed in Group B alongside Brazil, Dominican Republic, and Argentina. In the group phase, each team will play one game against every other opponent to determine the qualifying order for the quarterfinals.

This summer’s squad will be led by U16 Women’s National Team Head Coach, Fabienne Blizzard.
Canada's U16 Women's National Teams have had a strong record in recent years, capturing silver at the 2021 U16 Americas Championship after falling to the USA in the gold medal game. The team's road to the final included victories over Argentina and Chile in the semi-final and quarterfinal rounds, respectively, and a perfect 3-0 record in the group phase.
The top four teams from the FIBA U16 Women's AmericasChampionship will qualify for the FIBA U17 Women's World Cup to be held in Mexico in July 2024.
