TORONTO (Jan. 28, 2025) - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jasmine Bascoe have been named the Players of the Week for Jan. 20-26.
It was a remarkable week for Gilgeous-Alexander, as the Oklahoma City Thunder guard averaged 40 points, five rebounds, and four assists, helping the Thunder go 2-1 on the week. The product of Hamilton, Ont. also set a career-high in points, scoring 54 points against the Utah Jazz, the most points scored by a Canadian in NBA history. To top off the week, Gilgeous-Alexander received his second straight Western Conference All-Star team starter selection, making him the first Canadian to ever be named an NBA All-Star starter in back-to-back seasons. SGA last suited up for Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympics, helping the Senior Men’s National Team to a fifth-place finish.
Bascoe continues to shine in her freshman season with the Villanova Wildcats. The point guard led the team to a 67-52 victory over the Xavier Musketeers, scoring 25 points on 9-14 shooting, along with one rebound and seven assists. Just a few days prior, the Milton, Ont. native put up another consistent performance with 15 points, three rebounds and four assists in a matchup against the UConn Huskies. Bascoe last represented Canada at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in 2024, where she earned an All-Star Five honour, after averaging a team-high 14.8 points to help lead Canada to silver.
