Gilgeous-Alexander, Carleton named Toyota Canada Players of the Week
TORONTO, Ont. (April 17, 2023) - Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and Bridget Carleton have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for April 10 - 17.
Gilgeous-Alexander was instrumental in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Play-In win over New Orleans. The Hamilton, Ont. product scored a team-high 32 points on 11-22 shooting, while adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals. He followed up with a 22-point performance in the Thunder’s final game of the season, as they fell to Minnesota on Friday night. Gilgeous-Alexander, is a part of a 14-player core committed to the Senior Men’s National Team ahead of this summer’s FIBA Basketball Men’s World Cup 2023, suited up for Canada this summer in World Cup Qualifiers.

Carleton starred in each of Perfumerías Avenida’s (Spain) wins earlier this month, registering 16 and 12-point performances. The Chatham, Ont. product was perfect from three-point range, connecting on all seven of her attempts in the pair of games. Next up for Carleton is the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto quarter-finals, which get underway on Thursday, April 20. Carleton last suited up for Canada this past fall at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, helping the National Women’s Team to a fourth-place finish in Australia — the program’s best finish since 1986.
