Hailing from Welland, Ontario, Michele O’Keefe is the President & CEO of Canada Basketball. O’Keefe is also one of the world’s policy-makers in the sport, as a member of the FIBA Central Board and the first Vice President of FIBA Americas.

After three years as the organizations Executive Director, O’Keefe was appointed to her current role in April 2015. During her tenure as Executive Director, she worked relentlessly to forge stronger relationships with provincial/territorial partners, national stakeholders and international federations. O’Keefe was integral in securing the 2015 FIBA Americas Women’s Championship, taking place this summer in Edmonton, AB.

As President & CEO O’Keefe continues to manages relationships with key stakeholders nationally and abroad, including the oversight of all government relations and supporting sponsorship negotiations for the organization.

She also oversees the day-to-day operations, including high performance, domestic development, communications and marketing, coach education and general administration.

As a FIBA and FIBA Americas board member, her global focus is on governance, growth of 3X3 basketball and updating the competition structure, while helping to elevate Canada’s presence globally.

O’Keefe began her professional career with the Canada Basketball in 1994. She has held a variety of positions in the NSF including Manager, Communications and Director of Basketball Operations. The Bishop’s graduate was the Executive Director of Ontario Basketball before returning to Canada Basketball in 2010.

Committed to the game, O’Keefe is a fully certified NCCP Level 3 Coach and was an Assistant coach with McMaster University Women’s team from 1990-92. O’Keefe has also worked as part of the Toronto Raptors stats crew since its inception in 1995.

O’Keefe holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bishop’s University. After her first stint with Canada Basketball, O’Keefe spent time working at Fox 40 and then three years at CIBC in the Commercial Banking division.
