TORONTO (Feb. 11, 2025) - Leonard Miller and Syla Swords have been named the Players of the Week for Feb. 3- 9.
Miller, a two-way player for the Minnesota Timberwolves continues to flourish in the G League. The Scarborough, Ont. native scored 29 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks and the game-deciding basket in just 45 minutes to lead the Iowa Wolves in a narrow win over the Stockton Kings. Drafted with the 33rd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft, the forward has been on fire for the Wolves this season, averaging 24.7 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists. Miller will make an appearance in the 2025 NBA Rising Stars game this coming weekend, the league's annual showcase of young talent at All-Star Weekend. Miller last represented Canada at GLOBL JAM in 2022, where he starred for the U23 Men’s National Team in Toronto. He also partook in training camp this past summer in Toronto with the Senior Men’s National Team in the lead-up to the 2024 Olympic Games.
Swords keeps adding to her outstanding freshman season as she led the Michigan Wolverines in a rivalry win against the Michigan State Spartans, putting up 19 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Just last month, the product of Sudbury, Ont. dominated against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, scoring 23 points on 6-11 from the field, seven rebounds, and four assists in what was the Wolverines’ first ranked win of the season. She currently ranks 11th in the NCAA in freshman scoring, narrowly trailing fellow Canadians Delaney Gibb and Jasmine Bascoe, who help comprise a core of first-year standouts hailing from north of the border. Swords last suited up for Canada with the Senior Women’s National Team at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she became Canada’s youngest ever Olympic basketball player.
