TORONTO, Ont. (May 8, 2023) - Conor Morgan and Kayla Alexander have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for May 1-7.
Morgan had a big week, averaging more than 18 points and six rebounds-per-game in a pair of Turkish League games. The UBC alumnus shot 55 per cent from the field — including 62 per cent from beyond-the-arc on 6.5 attempts-per-game — to go along with a steal and a block in each contest. Morgan last represented Canada at the FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Window 6. The Victoria, B.C. product was also a part of the team’s Window 5 roster, as Canada punched their ticket to the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023 in Edmonton.
Alexander came up big for Bourges in the LFB (France) in the league’s quarterfinals, recording 18 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s 86-59 win to move them on to semifinal action. Alexander also had 15 points and 3 rebounds in the team’s Game 1 victory. She is looking to help Bourges to the team’s 15th Coupe de France and first since 2018 and will continue the pursuit on Tuesday, when they take on Alexander’s former team, Lyon, in the LFB semifinal. The Milton, Ont. product last suited up for Canada this past summer, helping the National Women’s Team to a fourth-place finish this past fall at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
