TORONTO, Ont. (May 1, 2023) - Jamal Murray and Shay Colley have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for April 24-30.
Murray keeps shining in the postseason. The Kitchener, Ont. product is playing some of the best basketball of his career and leading the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs. He scored 34 points, five rebounds and nine assists in a Round 2, Game 1 win over the Phoenix Suns. Through six postseason games, he is averaging 28.3 points and 6.8 assists-per-game. Murray, who last suited up for Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto where he won a silver medal, is one of 14 players a part of a core committed to Canada Basketball ahead of this summer’s FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023 and the 2024 Olympic Games.
Colley continues to star in France’s Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB) with Charleville-Mézières. The Brampton, Ont. product scored a season-high 18 points on 6-11 shooting — including 3-7 from three-point range — to go along with two rebounds. Her 18 points was also a career-high in the LFB for Colley. The Michigan State alumna last starred for the Women’s National Team at the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, where Canada finished fourth. Colley averaged 8.0 points-per-game during the tournament — fourth-most among Canadians. Colley also represented Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
