Murray, Pellington named Players of the Week

TORONTO (Feb. 19, 2025) -  Jamal Murray and Shaina Pellington have been named the Players of the Week for Feb. 10- 16.

The 2023 NBA Champion made history this week, putting up a career-high 55 points in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers, breaking Senior Men’s National Team teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s record for most points scored by a Canadian in a single NBA game. The product of Kitchener, Ont. is averaging 21 points, four rebounds, and six assists with the Denver Nuggets who are currently on an impressive eight-game win streak and sit third in the Western Conference. Murray last represented Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympics, helping the Senior Men’s National Team to a fifth-place finish.

Pellington, a recent signee for BK Lokomotiva Trutnov in Czech Republic, put up 28 points, six rebounds, three assists, and shooting 64.7 per cent from the field in a win over Chomutov. Prior to Trutnov, the forward from Pickering, Ont. played for APR BBC Kigali in the Rwandan D1 league where she averaged an impressive 18.2 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game, and was the recipient of the Afrobasket.com All-FIBA African Women Basketball League Guard of the Year Award. Pellington last suited up for Canada in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Sopron, Hungary, where the Senior Women’s National Team secured their spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
