National Championships Notes: Here are the updated standings as teams advance to the playoffs

ST John’s, NFL. (August 8, 2024)—The Canada Basketball 15U and 17U Men’s and Women’s National Championships completed their third day of play in Toronto and St John’s today. The tournament runs from August 5th to 10th, 2024.

With playoff action officially beginning, here are the results and updated standings from day three:

17U Women

Eight teams qualified for the quarterfinals following today’s play: Ontario, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec.

Ontario won a nail-biter 53-52 game over Quebec in the first game of the day, solidifying their spot as the number one seed in the tournament. They are on opposite sides of the bracket, with a chance to meet in the championship final.

Prince Edward Island got the thrilling win of the day when they closed out a close matchup against the hosts Newfoundland & Labrador, taking it 60-56 against the home crowd.

15U Women

Over in the 15U Women’s bracket, both Ontario and Quebec received a bypass to the semifinals due to their wins against Saskatchewan and British Columbia, respectively.

Saskatchewan and Alberta remain potential threats in the 15U bracket and will face off with the semifinals on the line.

17U Men & 15U Men

Both 17U and 15U Men’s age groups had eight teams qualify for the quarterfinals and two teams each that received a bypass to the semifinals.

Saskatchewan’s teams both scored big wins earlier today against the Northwest Territories, earning their spots in the semifinals.

Alberta and Quebec were the two other teams to get a bypass to the semifinals in their respective age groups, joining Ontario.

Fans can catch day four of the action live on Canada Basketball’s YouTube channel, beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET and 9 a.m. NDT. Game schedules will also be posted on basketball.ca and Canada Basketball’s social media channels.

The Canada Basketball 15U & 17U National Championships are the premier national amateur sports events for the Canadian basketball community. Each summer, Canada’s top next generation of high-performance athletes in the 15U and 17U age groups compete for the national championship title while proudly representing their home province/territory.
