National Championships Notes: Ontario sweeps tournament for the first time since Quebec did in 2019

ST John’s, NFL. (August 11, 2024)—The Canada Basketball 15U and 17U Men’s and Women’s National Championships completed their sixth and final day of play in Toronto and St John’s. The tournament ran from August 5th to 10th, 2024.

Ontario’s 17U & 15U Men’s and Women’s teams all won gold, making it the first time a province had swept the tournament in all teams since 2019, when Quebec achieved this accomplishment.

Quebec’s 17U and 15U women finished with silver, as well as Quebec’s 15U men. Meanwhile, Alberta swept bronze, with all four of their teams finishing third in the tournament. British Columbia’s 17U Men’s team was the lone team to capture silver.

Alberta also had three players make the all-star teams in St John’s, including Pippa Gibb (15U first team), Ailey Marshall (15U second team), and Jayda Queeley (17U first team), who all helped lead Alberta to their bronze finishes.

Team Ontario brought home all four MVPs in their age groups in Toronto and St John’s:

Jordan Charles (17U) and Kenyon St Louis (15U) were named MVP for Team Ontario, with Charles just recently representing Canada on the international stage at the FIBA U17 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2024.

Mira Tang (15U) and Milred Dibua (17U) claimed MVP for Team Ontario on the women’s side. Dibua put up 9 points and 9 rebounds in the championship game, while Tang hustled to make all the right plays for Team Ontario and clinch the gold.
