National Championships Notes: Semifinal matchups locked in following quarterfinal play in Toronto and St John’s

ST John’s, NFL. (August 9, 2024)—The Canada Basketball 15U and 17U Men’s and Women’s National Championships completed their fourth day of play in Toronto and St John’s today. The tournament runs from August 5th to 10th, 2024.

Teams that didn’t make the quarterfinals continue to play against each other to determine the remaining seeds for next year’s competition, but here are the updated brackets heading into semifinal play:

17U Women

Ontario vs British Columbia

Alberta vs Quebec

  • Ontario defeated Nova Scotia 74-44 to advance to the semifinals, showcasing why they were the number one seed following pool play.
  • British Columbia defeated Manitoba with a solid 63-41 victory, giving the team loads of confidence heading into their semifinal matchup against Ontario.
  • Alberta continues to prove why they are one of the favourites at this tournament, recording a resounding 67-37 win over Saskatchewan.
  • Quebec, the defending champions, are on a mission. They beat Prince Edward Island 94-37 to set up a semifinal clash with Alberta.

15U Women

Ontario vs Alberta

British Columbia vs Quebec

  • In nearly identical matchups as their U17 counterparts, these four provinces are showing the best results at the tournament.

17U Men

Ontario vs Quebec

British Columbia vs Alberta

  • Nearly every team that advanced to the semifinals scored over 100 points in the quarterfinal and beat their opponents by a 20+ margin, setting up for some exciting final four games.

15U Men

Each summer, Canada’s top next generation of high-performance athletes in the 15U and 17U age groups compete for the national championship title while proudly representing their home province/territory.
