Olivier Hanlan and Cassandra Brown have been selected as the Toyota Players of the Week for January 25-31.
Olivier Hanlan helped lead his team, Isaklis Thessaloniki of the Greek Basketball League, to three FIBA Europe Cup game victories over the week. Hanlan averaged an impressive 21 points, five rebounds and two assists per game and shot 61% from the field. The 6-foot-4 guard had a standout collegiate career with Boston College that led him to the 2015 NBA Draft, where he was selected 42nd overall by the Utah Jazz. In 2017, he signed with San Antonio Spurs where he went on to win a G-League Championship with their affiliate, the Austin Spurs, in 2018. Since then, he’s played professionally in Greece, Germany, France, Lithuania and recently made an appearance for the Ottawa BlackJacks during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series. Hanlan has represented Canada since 2010 in multiple events, including most recently the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.
Cassandra Brown, a guard for Sodertalje BBK, also led her team to victory this week. In an 82-67 win over Mark, Brown led the game with 29 points, including 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The Vernon, B.C. native is having a great year in Sweden so far averaging 21.2 points per game, 8.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists. Brown previously played for the University of Portland, where she is known for her incredible showing during the NCAA’s three-point contest in their annual skills competition in 2015. She outshot all of her competitors in the women’s category and went on to beat fellow Canadian Kevin Pangos on the men’s side. Brown has been a member of the Canadian national team since 2010 and recently competed at the Lima 2019 PanAm Games.
