TORONTO, Ont. (Aug. 8, 2023) - Paul Osaruyi and Jahda Denis have been named the Toyota Canada Players of the Week for July 31-Aug. 6.
Osaruyi was dominant for Ontario’s 15U Boys at the Canada Basketball National Championship this past week, helping his provincial team go undefeated en route to a 77-59 win over Quebec in the gold medal game. Osaruyi, who was named to the All-Star Five after leading Canada to a silver medal at the FIBA U16 Men’s Americas Championship 2023 in June, added to his summer accolades after being named the Toyota Canada 15U Boys MVP. The Ottawa product 14 points on 7-13 shooting in the gold medal game win.
Denis played an instrumental role on Quebec’s 17U Girls dominance at the Canada Basketball National Championship. The Terrebonne, Que. product shined in a 96-72 win over Alberta in the gold medal game where she put up 15 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds to help Quebec win it all for the first time since 2019. Denis added a gold medal to her summer medal haul after claiming silver with Canada at the FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship 2023. The guard was named a Second Team All-Star at the tournament after averaging 50 per cent (8-16) from beyond-the-arc in four games — a clip that was second best among 17U Girls at the tournament.
