Canada Women’s 3x3 Team in the semifinals
The Canadian Women’s 3x3 Team’s journey at Paris 2024 continues when they face Germany in the semifinals on Monday. Canada advanced to the semifinal after defeating Azerbaijan to close out pool play and then taking down Australia in the play-in game on Saturday. The other three teams who have advanced to the final day of 3x3 competition in Paris are Germany, Spain, and the United States.
Rematch is set
Canada enters the semifinals with a 5-3 record. After going 3-0 to start pool play in Paris, Canada’s first loss of the tournament came against Germany in a 19-15 decision where Sonja Greinacher’s eight points led all scorers and Germany connected on 4-of-7 two-pointers. Canada will look to get off to a solid start on Monday after falling behind 6-0 in their last meeting with Germany, where Greinacher scored the first five points of the game and Germany’s length inside was a challenge to contain. “I think we’re a very versatile team, and each [player] can do everything,” Paige Crozon said. “And we always rely on our defence, and our discipline on defence, and so we just want to continue to build on that every single game we play."
Points on the board
Canada enters the semifinals with the highest scoring average (18.4), and are in first place in offensive rebounds (41) while the Plouffe sisters are the top two scorers remaining in the tournament with Michelle averaging 6.6 points and Katherine averaging 6.4 points per game respectively. Canada’s play-in victory against Australia came in just 7:36 minutes and was the fastest victory recorded in Paris heading into Monday’s semifinal. Kacie Bosch was incredible in the victory, scoring a game-high nine points, including a pair of two-pointers as she was perfect from the floor, making all four of her attempts inside the arc as well as her two two-point attempts. Bosch and Crozon combined for four two-pointers against Australia as Canada pulled away early. “It’s such an emotional victory,” Crozon said after the team officially advanced to the semifinals in the program’s first-ever appearance at an Olympic Games. “Just to chase everything whole-heartedly makes you feel so vulnerable and open to all of the emotions that come with that and we have had such an up and down tournament so to play in the quarterfinals and to play our best, play in flow, play with one another, and have everyone contribute in such a big way just made me so proud of our team, our effort and all of the work and preparation that we put in to get to this point.”
